How to convert PDF to Word without losing formatting

Need to edit a PDF? The fastest route is converting it to a Word document. Here is how to do it cleanly, plus fixes for the most common problems.

Quick method (under a minute)

  1. Go to the Dilraf PDF PDF to Word converter.
  2. Drag your PDF onto the box or click Choose PDF.
  3. Press Convert to Word.
  4. Click Download DOCX and open the file in Word, Google Docs, Pages or LibreOffice.

Tips for the best result

  • Start from the original PDF. A PDF exported from Word or Google Docs converts far better than a photo of a page.
  • Convert only what you need. Use the page range option (for example 1-3, 5) for long documents.
  • Check fonts. If the PDF uses fonts you don't have installed, Word substitutes similar ones. Install the font or pick a replacement.
  • Review tables and images. Complex layouts can need a quick tidy after conversion.

Scanned PDFs and photos saved as PDF

A scanned PDF is a picture of a page, so there is no text inside to convert. Dilraf PDF detects these pages and runs OCR (optical character recognition) to read the words, then rebuilds the page as real Word content: paragraphs, headings, bullet lists and tables you can click into and edit. Logos and photos stay as images.

  • Choose the language under Options (English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic). Reading a page with the wrong language gives gibberish.
  • Use a clear scan. 200 to 300 DPI, straight, well lit and not blurry gives the best accuracy. Slightly tilted pages are straightened automatically.
  • Proofread the result. OCR is very good on printed text but never perfect, especially on small print, stamps and handwriting.

Password-protected PDFs

If you know the password, enter it under Options before converting. We use it only to open the file for conversion.

Opening the DOCX on any device

The .docx format works in Microsoft Word (Windows, Mac, mobile), Google Docs (upload to Drive), Apple Pages and LibreOffice Writer.

Frequently asked

How do I convert a PDF to Word for free?

Drop your PDF onto the converter above (or click “Choose PDF”), press Convert, and download your editable .docx file a few seconds later. No account, no email and no watermark.

Will my formatting stay the same after converting PDF to DOCX?

Yes, that is what we are built for. Our converter rebuilds paragraphs, tables, columns, images, fonts, bullet lists and hyperlinks as real Word elements, so the result looks like your PDF and stays fully editable.

Is it safe to upload my PDF?

Your file travels over an encrypted connection, is processed in an isolated temporary folder, and is deleted automatically the moment your Word file has been sent back to you. Nothing is stored. We never read or keep your documents. Only scanned pages are sent, over an encrypted connection, to an AI text-recognition service to read the text; regular digital PDFs never leave our server.

Can I convert only some pages?

Yes. Open “Options” and type a page range such as 1-3, 5, 8-. Only those pages end up in the Word file, which is handy for long reports.
